Electric vehicles in Iceland run on almost 100% clean electricity and help you maintain carbon neutrality while travelling.
There are different methods of charging elecetric vehicles and each is a little different. By learning the difference between them you will be able to decide which method works best for you at any given time.
Payment methods
Most charging points in Iceland require an app or some form of authentication (RFID) to operate and each supplier handles their payment methots differently.
We've done the research and come up with two solutions to ensure that you have easy acces to cheap power!
For a smooth experience, we recommend Ísorka and Plugsurfing.
- Ísorka is an Icelandic supplier from which you can buy cheap power directly and locate easily with their app.
- Plugsurfing is a roaming network which combines multiple providers in one app, for a small fee.
Types of connectors
Type 2 is designed for charging speeds up to 22 kW. It is the most common type of connector and all of our vehicles are compatible with it.
CCS is designed for charging speeds up to 350 kW. It is quickly becoming the most common type of fast charging connector.
CHAdeMO is designed for speeds up to 100 kW. It is a popular type of fast charging connector.

Charging modes
Mode 2 charging (Wall charging) charges EVs and PHEVs at speeds up to 3,7 kW. It suits PHEVs well for overnight charging.
Mode 3 charging (Home charging) charges EVs and PHEVs at speeds up to 22 kW. It suits EVs well for overnight charging.
Mode 4 charging (Fast charging) charges EVs at speeds up to 350 kW. It suits EVs well for charging while on the road.
